Job Description – Fire & Security Engineer


Wing’s Technical Services Limited is a progressive and fast-growing Facilities Management company with over 25 years of industry experience. We provide compliant, reliable and cost-effective Mechanical, Electrical, Fire & Security, and Building Services to a diverse client base across the South of England, with a strong focus on education and commercial environments.


Due to continued growth, we are now recruiting for an experienced Fire & Security Engineer to join our expanding compliance and electrical services team.


This role will involve planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault finding, remedial works, and small installations across fire alarm and security systems within schools and commercial properties, primarily throughout Hampshire and the surrounding areas.


The position includes multi-site working, occasional early starts, and participation in a shared on-call rota (typically 1 in 4 weeks).

Key Responsibilities


As a Fire & Security Engineer at Wing’s Technical Services, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting fire detection and security systems across a range of commercial environments.

Typical duties will include:


• Carrying out PPM servicing and inspections on fire alarm and security systems
• Fault finding and rectification of system issues
• Minor installations, upgrades and system modifications
• Replacing devices such as call points, sounders, detectors, control panels, sensors and associated components
• Commissioning and testing in line with BS 5839 and relevant security standards
• Completing compliance documentation digitally
• Attending reactive breakdowns including participation in the on-call rota
• Ensuring all works meet safety, compliance and company standards
• Representing the company professionally at client sites (especially schools)
• Liaising with electrical, mechanical and compliance teams where required


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications


Essential:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Fire Alarm and/or Security systems
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Good understanding of BS 5839 regulations
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong customer service and communication skills

Desirable (not essential):
• Experience in schools or public sector environments
• Electrical background or qualifications
• IPAF / PASMA
• Experience with CCTV, access control or intruder alarms
• Knowledge of emergency lighting or wider compliance systems



The Package


• £44,000 basic salary per year
• Approx. £21.15 per hour (based on 40 hours per week)

On-call allowance:
• £175 per week (1 in 4 rota – approx. £2,275 per year)

Overtime rates:
• Time and a half after 6:00pm Monday–Friday
• Time and a half Saturdays up to 12:00pm
• Double time after 12:00pm Saturdays and all-day Sunday
• Call-outs paid door-to-door

Working Hours

• Full-time – 40 hours per week
• Standard start time: 8:00am
• Occasional early starts (e.g. 6:00am) depending on site requirements
